Your Personal Practice Space

In today's society, it seems as though we are all familiar with the concept of the 'man cave' or the 'she shed.' It represents that special room or area which is dedicated specifically to the things which we enjoy. It is, for many, a personal retreat as well as an expression of our personal identity. It is where we go to relax, unwind and to completely focus on our hobbies, art, sports, fitness, or whatever we choose.

I have noticed that, unfortunately, many guitar students have no such space set aside for their personal practice time.

As a guitarist, it is important to have a special place set apart specifically for your study and practice. Ideally, of course, one would prefer to have his or her own music room or studio.

This, however, is not always possible, nor is it absolutely necessary. You may start with something as simple as acquiring a music stand. Studies have shown that guitarists who own a music stand practice an average of 30% more than those who do not. Find a spot where you may practice each day free from distraction. Set up a chair and your music stand in that spot and create your own personal musical space. You will now have a place where you may escape to each day and focus completely on enjoying both your music and your continual progress. You will find that your practice becomes more comfortable, more focused, and more fun.
